Day 30 – Cahors here we come

The little restaurant where we had lunch

It was drizzling when we packed the car.  We needed a recharge and found a fast charging station at a supermarket which meant we could also do some needed shopping for when we would be in Cahors.  By the time we returned, about 45 minutes later, I was surprised to find that it was almost 100% charged.

On our drive to the supermarket we came to the historic centre.  It looked lovely and like many such centres was partially pedestrianised.  I didn’t think it was very photoworthy compared to other places we had been, and it was wet so I did not feel like finding a parking place and then taking very ordinary photos.

It was an easy and interesting run to Cahors.  Soon after leaving Tulle we were ready for a bit of lunch (it was after midday after all) and called into an aire to find that the offerings were not good.  Rather than eat bad food we continued on for about ten minutes where we came across a little restaurant outside a very small village.

It was run by an older couple, I think, who had a chef doing the cooking.  There was not much choice but what we had was simple and delicious.  I figured with it being full of French people people the food must be good or the offering at the aire was so bad people stopped there to eat something more edible.  It was good French country cooking done simply.

Before long we were entering Cahors.  The main road we came down seemed quite narrow.  I was still getting used the width of the car which seemed to be quite wide.

Finally, we arrived in the Cahors.  Our first fleeting glance at it did not disappoint.

It took a little bit of searching to find our unit.  The instructions gave an address that was not helpful, however, we had another street name for where we were to park our ca.  Once we found the car park it was clear which unit we were in.  The apartment was in a block of about 12 units set out in lovely development with several other blocks of flats.  They were all 3 storeys  high.  Medium density living done well.

We were to be in Cahors for 8 nights.  The longest time we were to stop anywhere during our trip.  We were looking forward to not having to pack for a few days.  Once we had unloaded the car and sorted out our things it was time for a drink.  The little bottle of champagne had cooled sufficiently for us to celebrate the real beginning of our French adventure.
